Ok, so you’ve probably heard about Shakeology. Or maybe you haven’t. Well, I’m going to share my brief story about it and how it has affected me. When I first joined Beachbody, I had just ordered P90x. I explored the site and stumbled upon this shake they were selling but didn’t know anything about it. I was mildly curious. So I started doing some research on it and watching videos of people who were using it and getting positive results from it. I  also found a video from the co-creator of  Shakeology, Darin Olien, where he travels to get these ingredients and explains what goes into the shake.  I was a month into P90x when my curiosity got the best of me and said I have to try this. I had changed my eating habit’s, eating healthier or trying the best I could. I had managed to eliminate drinking Cokes from once a day to drinking none…a habit I thought my body would not adjust to lightly but I did it and by the end of the month, I didn’t feel the urge to drink them anymore …but I’m getting off on a tangent here. The one thing I was still horrible at was eating veggies. I just don’t eat them, I’d lean more toward fruit if I had to eat something healthy, but even that was rare. So that was one thing that Shakeology has a lot of… it’s just packed with a ton of antioxidants, proteins, and minerals, plus these superfoods which I hadn’t even heard of. One scoop is equal to your daily serving’s of fruits and vegetables, so I figured, what the heck… I’m going to see if this stuff works. So I caved in and bought a 30-day bag. If I felt it didn’t work, I could alway’s send it back, and get my money refunded. So I didn’t have much to loose.

I had ordered the chocolate and began taking it in the morning before work or after my workout’s. I tried it first by itself and noticed it had a slightly bitter after-taste to it. Not a deal breaker, so I started adding a banana or peanut butter and that tasted way better. About fourteen or fifteen day’s in from starting it I noticed something…. Now I’m not a morning person at all but I’ll never forget, I got up and was brushing my teeth and  just felt completely awake. Didn’t feel any sleepiness or tiredness…just felt awake and ready to go. And that wake fullness stayed with me for the rest of the day. Even that afternoon crash that I would sometimes get was gone. I just felt good. A few day’s after that, I had done back and bicep’s from P90X the night before, had taken Shakeology in the morning, and the following afternoon I was walking down the hall and just feeling so damn good. My muscles were sore but I just had this like high feeling and my mood was up. It was a normal work day, nothing special…hell it wasn’t even the weekend yet. So while doing P90x and taking Shakeology…it seem’s both were complimenting each other in harmony and giving me what my body needed. I know it sound’s corny but it’s the truth.

So upon reading up on some of these superfood’s that go into each bag and feeling how it initially made me feel, I ordered a second bag. I continued using it and found my overall health and system was better. It also got me on a regular basis of having bowel movement’s, something which didn’t happen for a lapse of 3 or 4 days before starting Shakeology. I didn’t know you had to be regular every day, that it was considered unhealthy. IBS also is on my mom’s side of the family as well and I was already getting that every now and then. Before getting on this shake, some day’s it would act up and Darren would come on out of nowhere or I’d get a cramping feeling in my stomach because of the gas build up…needless to see I didn’t feel good at all. Shakeology has overall corrected that issue. Once in awhile, I’ll get an IBS flare up, but it’s  minor that what it was before. It also has me going regularly (everyday like clockwork) so I’m getting all the waste out of my tract and it’s not just sitting there building up. Eventually, I’ll probably do the Ultimate Reset Program to get my body fully detoxified.

Another thing,  Shakeology will  make you feel fuller . If you’re wanting to loose weight, this will help. Substituting it in the morning instead of breakfast will keep you full and not have those hunger cravings until around lunch time. Or you can substitute it for lunch or dinner. However, if you’re not wanting to lose weight, like me, it does fill you up…but not give you the “oh, I can’t eat anymore” bloated feeling. I’ll drink this in the morning then when I get to work, I’ll have a cup of oatmeal, maybe a banana, and a power bar before lunch. But if you are wanting to loose weight, then say drink it in the morning and have a snack 2 or 3 hours later. It’s designed to make you feel full so you’re not tempted to excess eat if you’re trying to lose weight. If you’re concerned about the price and think it’s too expensive…then don’t buy it. I’m not here to try and tell you all these good things’s about it and coax you into buying something you’re not sure of. I get that it’s expensive, I do, but the reason being is the amount of different ingredient’s from around the world that go into making the product. If you look up some of these ingredients and see the benefit’s of them, which a lot of you’re not going to find in your local grocery store, you’ll understand why. One scoop equal’s out to be 4.00 dollars a day. One thing my mom does is that she’ll take half a scoop a day instead of a full scoop, that way the 30 day supply lasts longer. My advice…if you’re curious, can one scoop-a-day make me healthier, give me more energy, substitute that need for coffee in the morning with the added bonus of over 70 key whole food ingredients that deliver the nutrients your body needs? Really there’s only one way you’re going to know if Shakeology will work for you. Order a bag and try it for yourself.  As I said before, I wanted to see if Shakeology would change how I felt physically. It did! I know by taking it, I’m getting my daily intake of vegetable and fruits  along with so many other nutrients’s that help my body fight off disease, strengthen my immune system, and lower my bad Cholesterol. I may not know what every ingredient does, but I do know that the mix of raw nutrient’s and super foods that go into this product are making me a healthier person. And the great thing about it is that Beachbody offer’s a 30-day bottom-of-the-bag guarantee. So if you don’t feel healthier or notice a change, they’ll give you a full refund. It’s completely RISK-FREE

If you’re still asking yourself “Why should I drink Shakeology?”, well here’s an exert from the Shakeology blog giving a quick rundown of what’s in each bag and how it will aid in your body’s health.

  • Antioxidants. Shakeology contains some of the most potent antioxidants: flavonoids and phytonutrients such as spinach, blue green algae, carrot powder, strawberry powder, and vitamins E and C. These help to prevent free radicals from oxidizing and destroying cells. The ingredients in our antioxidant blend such as pomegranate, acai berry, camu-camu, goji, and blueberry also have powerful antioxidant effects to support your immune system and help protect your body from normal inflammatory response.
  • Energy. Shakeology contains a range of B vitamins and trace minerals, like zinc and magnesium, from whole food sources that regulate metabolism and increase energy. Shakeology also contains maca root, an adaptogen herb known to promote endurance and stamina.
  • Digestion. The Shakeology non-dairy prebiotic and probiotic blend contains fiber and different enzymes like amylase, papain, cellulase, and lactase, which all support digestion. These ingredients aid in breaking down food molecules into smaller molecules that can be properly digested, so all of the nutrients can be absorbed into your system.
  • Mood. One scoop of Shakeology provides 100% of the daily recommended intake of vitamin B12. B12 is often linked with good mood maintenance; B vitamins are also essential for the production and proper functioning of neurotransmitters like dopamine, crucial to the experience of pleasure. Shakeology also contains cacao, which is very high in phenylethylamine (PEA). PEA acts as a neuromodulator to enhance one’s mood.
  • Detoxification. Many of the ingredients in Shakeology (spirulina, chlorella, flaxseed, barley grass, spinach) contain powerful detoxification compounds such as chlorophyll and alpha-linolenic acid. These ingredients may help rid the body of environmental toxins such as smog, heavy metals, herbicides, cleaning products, and pesticides. They also aid in liver detoxification. Shakeology also includes kamut grass, an ingredient coined “nature’s most powerful detoxifier.” This grass has been known to cleanse the body and detoxify the cells to restore health and vitality.
  • Immunity. The antioxidants, bio flavonoids, and flavanoids in Shakeology work to support immunity. Some of these ingredients include ashwagandha, acerola cherry, rose hips, and goji berries. The goji berries in Shakeology are one of the richest sources of antioxidants; not only does goji berry promote eye, reproductive, and circulatory health, but it also supports your immune system and promotes longevity!
  • Satiety/cravings. The protein, chromium, and nutrient-dense calories from superfoods in Shakeology work to help decrease your appetite. Chromium is important because it helps maintain blood-sugar levels, which reduces sugar cravings and promotes fat metabolism. Plus, protein-rich meals are a great way to keep you feeling full, longer!
  • Complete nutrition: Each Shakeology ingredient plays an important role in feeding your body on a cellular level, but it is important to remember that the synergy of the 70+ ingredients working together is what truly fuels your body to keep you looking and feeling your best.

And if you’re lactose intolerant or just don’t want dairy of any kind, Shakeology just released two flavor’s designed for Vegans (plant-based nutrients) Chocolate and Tropical Strawberry. I’ve personally tried the Vegan Tropical Strawberry (I’m not a Vegan, I love my chicken) and the Vegan Chocolate and they are soooo good. They have a very light texture to them, different from that of the chocolate which has whey protein/dairy in it. Not gritty at all. I’ll throw in a banana, few ice cubes, blend that up, and it’s like having a strawberry-banana shake. They’re thirty other recipes to choose from when you order a bag so you could try a new flavor every day. Or go crazy and invent your own flavor. Either way, you’ll be healthier once those 30 days are up.

So is it really worth it?  You won’t know until you try it for yourself!
